What this skill is
Quantity words describe how much, and most of them are relative rather than fixed - "a lot" of raisins is a different number than "a lot" of elephants. Children usually get the extremes first, because all and none are absolute, and settle the middle terms later. "More" arrives very early because it is enormously useful.
What to expect
A very common pattern is treating "some" as though it means "all", and another is using "more" for any increase at all, including quality ("more good"). Both are ordinary. The comparative pairs (more/less, many/few) are genuinely harder, because they require comparing two amounts rather than judging one.
